Today marks one year since the horrific attacks by Hamas. I mourn the loss of over 1,200 Israelis and stand with the families of hostages still awaiting reunion. I categorically condemn Hamas’ atrocities and urge the safe return of all hostages.
I also condemn the ongoing violence against the Palestinian people, which has resulted in a death toll exceeding 40,000. The bombardment and devastation caused by Netanyahu’s anti-democratic leadership must come to an end.
Over the past year, I have called for the release of hostages, an immediate and permanent bilateral ceasefire, and for the US to halt weapons transfers to Israel. Now more than ever, I am committed to advocating for an end to the continued brutality through a lasting ceasefire.
The severe violence and heartbreaking bloodshed have profoundly affected our communities and many of my constituents. I pray for the safe release of the remaining Israeli hostages and an end to the mass killings and starvation of the Palestinian people.
As a NYC Council Member, my commitment to addressing the rise in antisemitism, Islamophobia, and anti-Palestinian bigotry is stronger than ever. I’m dedicated to my own education and to ensuring my office serves as a resource and support for those experiencing pain and grief.
