Councilmember Sandra Ung introduced two pieces of legislation in the City Council that will address quality-of-life concerns on New York City’s public sidewalks.

Intro 1272 requires the Department of Transportation (DOT) to conduct a site visit before the issuance or renewal of a stoop line stand license. A stoop line stand license permits a retail establishment to display merchandise on a public sidewalk.

Councilmember Sandra Ung, fellow elected officials, and community leaders joined the Olde Town of Flushing Burial Ground Conservancy on Saturday to co-name the intersection of 164th Street and 46th Avenue as “Olde Towne Burial Ground Lane.”

“The co-naming of 164th Street and 46th Avenue may not be significant given the turmoil in the world, but it’s a step forward from past injustices,” said Maureen Regan, who co-chairs the Conservancy with Robbie Garrison.

(FLUSHING) The City Council on Thursday passed legislation sponsored by Councilmember Sandra Ung requiring the creation of a task force to identify potential locations for a bus transit center in Flushing. 

“Flushing is not just a bustling transit hub for northeast Queens residents, it is the busiest bus-to-train transfer location in the mass transit system, making it a crucial connection point for our city,” said Councilmember Sandra Ung.

Councilmember Sandra Ung visited PS 162 in Fresh Meadows on Wednesday morning to attend the school’s first assembly of the year, during which the Citizens of the Month and MVP’s for September were recognized. While there, the Councilmember announced that she secured $162,000 in this year’s budget for technology upgrades at the school.

In the Fiscal Year 2024 budget, Councilmember Ung was able to secure over $4.5 million for schools in her district.

(FLUSHING) Councilmember Sandra Ung joined NYC Council Speaker Adrienne Adams and NYC Parks Queens Borough Commissioner Jackie Langsam to announce a total of $6 million in City Council funding to complete two sections of the Eastern Queens Greenway.

During a joint hearing of the New York City Council’s committees on Sanitation and Solid Waste Management and Oversight and Investigations on Wednesday, committee members discussed a piece of legislation introduced by Councilmember Sandra Ung that would require the city to convene a task force to find potential sites for a bus depot in Flushing.

“We are lucky to have a transit-rich area in downtown Flushing, but that also brings with it a number of challenges,” said Councilmember Sandra Ung.

Councilmember Sandra Ung introduced legislation in the City Council that would create a task force to identify potential locations for a new bus depot in Flushing.

Flushing is the busiest bus-to-train transfer hub in the New York City Transit system. Approximately 20 MTA bus routes pass through or begin and end in downtown Flushing, in addition to the NICE buses that service areas of Nassau County.

Following the city’s recent increased enforcement of the rules and regulations in the no-vending zone in downtown Flushing, Councilmember Sandra Ung met with representatives from the Street Vendor Project and local vendors on Wednesday afternoon in her District Office. After hearing interest from many constituents and vendors about the possibility of finding alternative sites for vending in Flushing, the Councilmember raised two proposals regarding potential locations that under the right circumstances could be suitable for general vending on a limited basis.
