Council Member Sandra Ung hosted a free Summer Camp Fair on Tuesday, April 12, at Glow Community Center for parents wishing to explore various options for their children over the summer break.
The event was an opportunity to meet with representatives from various educational programs, as well as learn about employment opportunities for teens through the city’s Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP).
“We have a variety of great educational programs in our district for children to take advantage of over the summer break, which is a great thing,” said Council Member Ung. “But it also means there are a lot of different options for parents to consider before they choose, which can be a daunting and time-consuming task. I wanted to bring them all together so parents could learn what each has to offer, and then choose the program that best suits their needs.”
Attendees included the Department of Health, Flushing Baptist Church (Kidz Connect), Asian American Coalition for Education, Glow Community Center, The Korean Church of Queens, Chinese American Parents Association, Flushing YMCA, Immanuel Genius, Commonpoint Queens, and the Chinese-American Planning Council.
Representatives from the various programs were available to answer any questions regarding hours of operation, enrollment requirements and costs, and the types of activities offered.
