“This evening, Jewish New Yorkers across the five boroughs and throughout the world will usher in 5778 years of health and prosperity. I am very proud of the Council’s far-reaching partnerships with local organizations that serve our city’s Jewish communities and all New Yorkers in need. The Council created and expanded the Elie Wiesel Holocaust Survivors Initiative, providing critical resources for the tens of thousands of Holocaust survivors who are living in poverty throughout the five boroughs. We have restored and increased funding for culturally sensitive child-care options for hard working families, hosted two delegation missions to Israel and, especially relevant this time of year, worked with pantries, soup kitchens and providers of all sizes to ensure that kosher food options are available so all families are able to celebrate the holidays with dignity. This Council has prioritized the needs of our most vulnerable neighbors, and it has been a pleasure to have the opportunity to get to know and work with all of the dedicated leaders of New York’s Jewish community. My warmest wishes to all for a happy, healthy, safe and sweet New Year. Shanah tovah u’metukah!”
