“Today is a solemn day for New Yorkers as we mark the one year anniversary of the assassinations of Detectives Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu. This deplorable act brought the city and country together in mourning and our nation continues to grieve for Detectives Ramos and Liu and for all those who have lost their lives in the line of duty. Violence against New York City’s bravest is wholly unacceptable, and is an assault against all New Yorkers. As we remember Detectives Ramos and Liu, we must remain committed to supporting the courageous men and women of the NYPD each and every day. From providing funds for new bullet resistant vests, to increasing headcount to the NYPD, the City Council will continue to do all we can to ensure that the NYPD has the resources they need to keep our City – and its police offers- safe.”
