“I was deeply troubled and disturbed to hear of the murder of David Kato in Uganda. David, innocent and a leader in the global fight for LGBT equality, was brutally murdered because of hate-fueled ignorance. His murder is devastating and was an assault to the love and acceptance he truly believed in and spread. This loss is felt around the world, and transcends continents and oceans.

“David exemplified tolerance and peace and led the charge as an advocate against all forms of hate. David will always be remembered as a man who stood up for the strong and weak alike, for anyone who needed a voice. His death is a reminder that every single individual has the power to promote tolerance and stand up against injustices both near and far. We must all remain committed to this effort, whether in New York City or beyond.”
