“This afternoon the House voted on a proposal to unfortunately end funding for Planned Parenthood, who for decades has provided women access to birth control and reproductive health services.

I’ve been working with Planned Parenthood of New York City since I’ve started in politics and they have been a leader in advocating privacy a woman’s right to choose. I’ve also worked with then to craft legislation to better protect and support women’s health and safety. To deny them funding for the services they have been giving to the millions of women, men and teens of this city is a recipe for disaster.

Planned Parenthood of New York City is one of the most respected institutions in our city. It provides essential preventive and reproductive health care to more than 50,000 New Yorkers each year, including comprehensive GYN exams, STD testing and treatment, birth control, breast and cervical cancer screenings and more. It works with our city’s parents, teens, and most vulnerable populations, to make sure they are safe, healthy, and have access to the services they need. Many of those they serve would otherwise have nowhere else to go nor would they have care.

For so many New Yorkers, when they feel they don’t know where to turn, they always have one option: Planned Parenthood of New York City. Today’s vote is a slap in the face for women and their right to choose. We hope the Senate will do right by women and block this nonsense proposal.”
