“It is with the utmost sense of pride as an Irish American and member of the LGBT community that I congratulate the City Councils of Belfast and Cork City for recently passing motions to make marriage equality a reality in Ireland.

I commend Sinn Fein’s leadership for bringing this issue to the forefront, specifically councilor Mary Ellen Campbell in Belfast and councilor Michael Nugent in Cork City. These cities are sending a clear message that all people in Ireland should be treated as equals no matter who they may love. I urge supporters of marriage equality to make their voices heard across the country on the eve of Ireland’s constitutional convention and advocate for a law guaranteeing every Irish man or woman the right to marry who they choose – New York City will be in your corner. ”
