“For decades, the Ruppert Playground has served the Upper East Side of Manhattan as an important place for children, parents and all to enjoy. Therefore, we must all work together to keep this resource for our children.

That is why I am pleased to announce that we are in the process of setting up a meeting with the Related Companies and the Bloomberg administration to discuss options that would preserve this playground for a community with pressing needs for open space. The Related Companies have honored their agreement to keep this lot a park for many years, even beyond the period of time outlined in the original agreement. But this is so important — we must keep working to find an alternative that saves this park.

I want to thank my Council colleagues Daniel Garodnick and Jessica Lappin, Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney, Assembly Member Dan Quart, State Senators Liz Krueger and José Serrano and the community leaders who have worked hard to advocate on behalf of their neighborhood.”
