“The decision by Osvaldo Rios to withdraw as Godfather of the National Puerto Rican Day Parade is the right move. His selection by the parade organizers caused a lot of controversy and divided many in the Puerto Rican community which is not what this parade symbolizes.

This parade celebrates the success and achievements of Puerto Ricans here in the United States as well as abroad. The parade organization needs to select someone who reflects the leadership, spirit and vitality of Puerto Rico. Unfortunately Mr. Rios’ past does not reflect that.

I look forward to proudly marching alongside my colleagues and the many Puerto Ricans who have made significant contributions to our city and to our country.”
