The Council will also vote on plan to accommodate pets in homeless shelters

City Hall, NY – Building on last month’s package of bills to help ensure the survival of New York City restaurants, the Council will vote today to formalize measures taken to regulate third-party food delivery services by licensing the industry.  This would make current regulations of the industry permanent, including caps on commission fees.

Analysis finds Black women make nearly 2 percent less than white men in the same position within the City workforce

City Hall, NY – Today the Council released a report on pay disparities within the New York City municipal workforce, analyzing data made available by a law the Council passed in 2019 and which shows the median salary for men is $21,600 higher than for women.

The Council will also vote to increase protections for domestic workers under human rights law

City Hall, NY – Continuing the vital work of protecting New York City’s small businesses, today the Council will vote to extend measures passed earlier in the pandemic to help keep these businesses afloat. The first of these bills would extend the laws that already prohibit third-party delivery platforms from charging restaurants more than 15% per order for delivery and more than 5% per order for all other fees, pushing the end date of these caps until February 17, 2022.

The $98.7 billion budget includes $500 million in new reserves and major investments in education, housing and quality of life

City Hall, NY – City Hall, NY – Speaker Corey Johnson, Finance Committee Chair Daniel Dromm, Capital Budget Subcommittee Chair Helen Rosenthal, and Mayor Bill de Blasio today announced a $98.7 billion budget agreement for the Fiscal Year 2022 that includes major investments and restorations in education, seniors, youth and quality of life enhancements like sanitation services.

City Hall, NY—Today, Speaker Corey Johnson and Mayor Bill de Blasio announced the City will commit $40.5 million in the FY22 Budget to raise City contracted shelter security guards’ wages to meet the prevailing wage rate for security guards. These security guards will see their wages increase from as low as $15 dollars per hour to approximately $18 an hour, in addition to benefits such as family health care.

The Council will also vote on a bill to address maternal mortality  

City Hall, NY – The New York City Council will vote on legislation today to require the City to pay higher rates in its rental assistance voucher program for homeless New Yorkers. Int. 146-C also eliminates the program’s current five-year cap for vouchers. Moving forward, anyone who continues to qualify for the program will be eligible.
