While we have come along way in the struggle for equality, the brutal murder of Edgar Garzon is a painful reminder that we must continue to stand up against ignorance and hatred in any form.
I want to thank the prosecutor, Karen L. Ross, for her work in this case. This conviction is a testament to the idea that anyone who commits a crime motivated by hate or bias will be punished to the full extent of the law.

Obviously, some landlords feel they need to protect a pattern of behavior designed for only one purpose – to get people out of their homes. This bill was the product of 14 months of thoughtful collaboration with tenants, advocates and landlords, and we are confident it will stand up to any legal challenge.
