City Hall, NY –Speaker Christine C. Quinn today announced the Council will pass a package of legislation to reduce vending fines and ease the burden on New York City’s street vendors. The bills, to be voted on by the full Council at Wednesday’s Stated meeting, will cap maximum fines at $500 and will prohibit vending near hospital no-standing zones, taxi stands and within 20 feet of residential building exits.

City Hall, NY – Today, City Council Speaker Christine C. Quinn announced details of new legislation that will protect New York City homeowners seeking to physically elevate their homes in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. “Hurricane Sandy caused unprecedented damage to many homes and properties along New York City’s coast line. It is therefore startling and troubling to hear recent reports that numerous homes received assessment notices from the Department of Finance that showed increases in their property values.

“It raises real doubts about whether DOF is doing enough to ensure fair and accurate assessments, and how it is communicating this with the public.
