Community Groups Cheer the Success of the IDNYC card program

East Harlem, NY – City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito, Council Member Daniel Dromm, and Immigration Chair Carlos Menchaca, today celebrated the opening of the IDNYC enrollment center in East Harlem. This permanent site is an addition to the many enrollment centers throughout the city that continue to help New Yorkers sign up for the highly coveted official city identification card.

NEW YORK, June 8 — On Tuesday June 9th, at 5:30p.m., members of the LGBT Caucus of the New York City Council will visit The Center’s IDNYC Pop Up site to bring attention to the benefits of the municipal identification card, especially those awarded to the LGBT community.

Thanks to the efforts of the New York City Council, New York created its first Municipal ID accessible to all New Yorkers, regardless of who they are.

Annual Event Celebrates Accomplishments and Contributions of New York City’s LGBT Community

The event, held in City Council Chambers, honors the achievements and ongoing struggles of the LGBT community. Over 51,000 New Yorkers voted to allocate $32 million dollars for locally-developed capital projects across the city

New York—Today, Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito and the New York City Council announced the voting results and winning proposals of the 2014-2015 Participatory Budgeting cycle. During the voting period of April 11th through April 19th, over 51,000 New Yorkers voted to allocate $32 million dollars for locally-developed capital projects across 24 Council Districts in New York City.

Event will highlight local businesses recovering after East Village Explosion

New York, NY – Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito and Council Member Rosie Mendez today announced the Council will host a “Follow Me Friday” tour of Manhattan’s East Village with local business owners, community members, and elected officials on Friday, May 29th. The Follow Me Friday Small Business Crawl will help highlight and promote East Village small businesses recovering from the aftermath of the March 26th building explosion and will begin with a moment of silence at the site of the explosion on 2nd Avenue and 7th Street.
