Council will also vote on updates to the City’s Human Rights Law

City Hall – Today the City Council will vote on legislation increasing transparency and reporting requirements relating to violence in city jails. The Council will also vote on a legislative package that updates and strengthens the city’s Human Rights Law. Finally, the Council will vote on two bills to improve green standards and reduce energy usage in city buildings.

CITY HALL – Today, Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito and the East Harlem Neighborhood Steering Committee announced the goals and recommendations of the East Harlem Neighborhood Plan, a community-based planning blueprint for long-term neighborhood growth and development.

Council will also vote on legislative package improving access to city services for New Yorkers with disabilities

City Hall – Today the New York City Council will vote on a bill to require increased language access to city websites, as well as a bill requiring accessibility standards for city websites for New Yorkers with disabilities. The Council will also vote on two bills to improve access to city agencies for New Yorkers with disabilities.

Council will also vote to co-name 42 public places in New York City

City Hall – Today the City Council will vote on a legislative package to reform Council rules and policies and set compensation for the city’s elected officials. Additionally, the Council will vote on legislation co-naming 42 streets, parks and public places. Finally, the Council will vote on legislation establishing discounted fees for Parks Department memberships to New Yorkers with disabilities.

Today, Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito and Schools Chancellor Carmen Fariña announced an innovative collaboration with Microsoft Corp. to provide New York City students and families with access to Microsoft software.

Students and families will be able to download Office 2016, Office for Mac 2016 and the Office 365 mobile apps available for Windows 10 tablets, iPhone, iPad and Android devices.
