“National Equal Pay Day serves as a stark reminder of the pay disparities women continue to face and the work ahead to close the pay gap. Here in New York City, working women earn just 87 cents on the dollar compared to a man in the exact same position. The disparities are even wider for women of color, as Black women earn 66 cents, Latina women earn 60 cents, and Native American women earn 55 cents on the dollar. These inequities are not just unfair; they are also harmful to our economy, hampering opportunities for our communities. The Council remains focused on addressing the gender and racial wage gap, particularly within the city’s municipal workforce. We are more committed than ever to build on the progress we have made on this persistent issue to ensure all New Yorkers, and their labor, are valued equally.”
