“I am saddened, but not surprised, at reports of illegal hotel activity operating in the Atelier condominiums in my district. The sheer size of this operation – with 27 notices of violations in this building alone – shows how endemic this problem is and how necessary the Council legislation passed in July is to protect our housing stock.

That bill, which will require Airbnb and similar home-sharing companies to submit certain information about its New York City hosts to the City’s Office of Special Enforcement, would provide the City with the additional tools needed to prioritize enforcement and to combat illegal and unsafe transient use, like what has occurred at the Atelier.

It is obvious Airbnb is more interested in boosting their bottom line than complying with common sense enforcement efforts. They should drop the lawsuit immediately and begin working with the city to protect housing.”
