New York City’s immigrant population provides a vibrant, multicultural fiber that cannot be matched anywhere else in the world. As such, our city’s immigrants and their families must be treated in a way that reflects our appreciation for them. Comprehensive reform isn’t comprehensive if it doesn’t include all families – including lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender ones.
Our city’s immigrants are the backbone of what makes this city such a unique place like no other in the world. This nation was founded by immigrants and work hard everyday to make the American dream a reality for themselves and their families. That is why it’s imperative to have good comprehensive immigration reform package, where families can be together, not tear them apart
The final legislation it must help end the separation of all families. This past September the City Council passed a resolution in urging Congress to pass the United American Families Act (UAFA) and to include LGBT immigration reform where all families are recognized in its plans. We strongly stand with our allies in the immigrant community and we urge the Obama administration to quickly move on this issue.
