On Monday, Mayor Adams’ administration announced an additional $46 million in the Fiscal Year 2026 Executive Budget to finance 5,850 units of supportive housing, 4,550 of which will be newly built and 1,300 of which will be preserved. The administration also announced it will shift the focus of its 15/15 Supportive Housing Initiative to focus solely on congregate, single-site units. Mayor Adams also announced $7.6 million for the Anti-Harassment Tenant Protection (AHTP) program, $24 million to expand the Partners in Preservation program to support tenant organizing, and an expansion of the Homeowner Help Desk—all of which were priorities secured in the Council’s City for All housing plan. In response to this announcement, Speaker Adrienne Adams released the following statement.
“The Council has been consistent in championing affordable homeownership, tenant protections, and supportive housing as one of the most effective solutions to address homelessness and mental health challenges. Today’s announcement represents another victory for the Council’s City for All housing plan, for which we secured $5 billion in investments for housing and neighborhoods that includes these announcements. We advocated for and secured greater investments in supportive housing and shifting to production of congregate sites, as well as homeowner and tenant protections that were added and restored from the mayor’s budget cuts, respectively. New Yorkers will benefit from these investments, and we look forward to seeing more housing support for New Yorkers brought online to fulfill City for All commitments in the adopted city budget.”
