“New York City is in the midst of a major housing crisis that is making it increasingly difficult for working- and middle- class New Yorkers and families to remain in our city. The lack of affordable homes, record homelessness, rising evictions, and widespread housing insecurity undermines the stability of our communities, and requires a comprehensive plan to confront.

“The Administration’s City of Yes zoning reform proposal seeks to address one part of the problem by reducing barriers to building new housing. Our city needs a comprehensive housing plan that will fully address New Yorkers’ needs for affordability and housing security. As the Council thoroughly reviews the Administration’s proposed zoning changes, we will prioritize solutions to the full range of housing challenges facing New Yorkers. We encourage the public to continue providing specific feedback throughout this process so we can advance the best plan to truly address the housing crisis and improve our city.”
