“We are already in the midst of a climate emergency, and New York City has experienced some of the worst effects in the past decade due to climate change. The same communities that have suffered from poor health outcomes as a result of historic underinvestment are bearing the brunt of this crisis. The need for urgent and bold action is more dire than ever. Yet, this United States Supreme Court seems intent on taking our country backwards with their decisions to limit the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s authority to curb and regulate emissions. This is a major setback and will only inflict further harm. New York City has long demonstrated leadership in the fight against climate change and will continue to act with the appropriate urgency to meet the magnitude of the climate emergency. We will keep moving forward to protect our planet and frontline communities while advocating for necessary federal action.”
