“Today marks the end of a historic legislative session, one that ushered in a new era in Albany made possible by our newly elected Democratic State Senate. What Speaker Heastie, Leader Stewart-Cousins, and Governor Cuomo accomplished this year is remarkable: the strongest rent protections for tenants in decades, the Green Light bill, the Climate and Community Protection Act, strengthening sexual harassment laws, and so much more. Of course, there is still more work to be done on issues like legalizing marijuana, automatic voter registration, legalizing surrogacy, halting solitary confinement, and more. But New Yorkers should be inspired by what we saw this session and excited for what we can accomplish next session. I certainly am.”
