Statement by Speaker Corey Johnson on International Women’s Day

“Today, on International Women’s Day, we celebrate and honor the women in our lives and around the world. I consider myself lucky to have been surrounded by incredible women throughout my life, including my mother, Ann Richardson. She is a constant source of inspiration to me. New Yorkers are fortunate to have a host of brilliant women serving in New York City government. I am lucky to work with and serve alongside the Council’s trailblazing Women’s Caucus, as well as the hardworking, brilliant women on staff at the Council. I am proud to call them my colleagues and friends. We share the goals of encouraging more women to seek elected office and helping more women hold positions of power in New York and throughout the world. Today and throughout Women’s History Month, we applaud the many contributions women have made to society since the dawn of time and look forward to more #Herstory in the making. The future is female!”
