Statement by Speaker Corey Johnson Re: 50th Anniversary of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s “I’ve Been to the Mountaintop” Speech

“Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. preached unity and encouraged change through nonviolent protests. His words and passion are just as true in 2018 as they were in his lifetime. I am honored to be in Memphis today – on the 50th anniversary of his assassination – with so many leaders and patriots marching in his name. Dr. King’s legacy lives on each and every day as we honor and carry the principles he gave his life for; from fighting to provide a fair living wage to opening our doors for recent immigrants, his dream will never die as long as we continue to advocate for justice and peace.”
