“The collision in Times Square this morning was a horrific and tragic incident that appears to have been carried out by a lone and compromised driver. New Yorkers must keep assured that they are secure and protected as officials work to determine the timeline behind this shocking accident. In the interim, the City Council extends its deepest condolences to the family of the deceased, and our thoughts for a quick recovery are with the remaining victims. We send thanks to the first responders who were on the scene and treating the wounded within moments, as well as the NYPD officers who were able to quickly place the alleged perpetrator into custody. This is an incredibly safe city with an unparalleled set of emergency response teams, all of whom are working to monitor what seems to be an isolated situation closely as it progresses. Whether a visitor or a local, the public should remain confident in its safety today.”
