“I am outraged that one of our own community’s food co-ops is considering boycotting the purchase of products from Israel, one of our nation’s, and especially one of New York City’s, strongest friends.

“The City Council and I value the presence of food-co-ops in our neighborhoods, as they bring fresh and affordable food to areas often under served by supermarkets. However, any action by this co-op that singles out or targets Israel – has no place in our city. A vote to ban products from the state of Israel would be ill conceived and unwarranted.

“I’ve had the pleasure of visiting the great nation of Israel many times, and each trip reminds me that they need our continued support, not neglect. They are a nation striving to protect the same independence that the United States cherishes, and no one – especially this co-op, should get in the way of that.”
