“I am deeply saddened that the closure of St. Vincent’s Catholic Medical Center has resulted in the loss of a medical home for this group of homebirth midwifes. I am disappointed that no other private facility has chosen to enter into an agreement with these midwives so that they can continue to provide the birthing experience that their clients have chosen. I would like to thank the Health and Hospitals Corporation for taking the time to meet with the midwives and their elected advocates to discuss ways in which we may be able to work together. I will continue to work on behalf of the homebirth midwives to try to find a solution to this unintended consequence of the St. Vincent’s closure.”
