CITY HALL – The City Council approved a home rule request today, urging state lawmakers to vote in favor of congestion pricing legislation. The home rule request, which passed the Council 30-20, will be sent to Albany for consideration prior to votes in the State Legislature.

CITY HALL – On Monday, March 24th, the Council’s Committee on State and Federal Legislation will hold an oversight hearing to discuss the recommendations made by the New York City Traffic Congestion Mitigation Commission. The commission, which released its final report on January 31st, was asked to analyze the costs and benefits of various plans to reduce traffic congestion in New York City and to formulate a final set of recommendations for the actions the city should take.

Council Members will also vote on the “Pedestrian and Bicyclist Safety Act”, requiring the Department of Transportation to conduct safety analysis at crash sites to improve pedestrian and bicyclist safety, as well as legislation to prevent blockage of traffic signs.
