Queens, NY – Council Member Lynn Schulman (District 29) announced today that the iconic “Queens, The World’s Borough” sculpture, created by Forest Hills resident Larry Ng, will be relocated to Citi
Field, home of the New York Mets, where it will continue to serve as a vibrant symbol of Queens pride and diversity.

Originally installed at MacDonald Park, the sculpture stands six feet tall and stretches nearly 23 feet wide. The stainless-steel structure, weighing over 2,000 pounds, is painted in the colors of the Queens borough flag reflecting the boroughs deep history and cultural richness.

Council Member Schulman, a longtime Mets fan and dedicated advocate for the arts, worked closely with artist Larry Ng to identify a new home for the sculpture following the conclusion of it’s temporary installation agreement with the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation.

Under New York City guidelines governing temporary public art installations, artwork displayed in parks are generally permitted for a limited duration – typically up to one year – after which they must be removed or relocated. In compliance with these rules, Council Member Schulman prioritized finding a high-visibility, community-centered location to ensure the sculpture remains accessible to the public.

Citi Field offers a fitting new home for the piece, welcoming millions of visitors each year and standing as a cultural and civic hub in the heart of Queens. The relocation ensures that the sculpture’s message of unity, diversity, and borough pride will continue to reach a broad and diverse audience.

“From the very beginning, I have been committed to ensuring that this powerful symbol of Queens pride remains accessible to the public,” said Council Member Lynn Schulman “While the sculpture’s installation at MacDonald Park was always temporary under City guidelines, I worked closely with the artist to secure a new home that reflects its importance to our borough. As a lifelong Mets fan, I’m especially proud that it will now be displayed at Citi Field – one of Queen’s most iconic destinations – where millions of visitors will be able to experience and celebrate the diversity that makes our community so special.”

“After a very successful and popular one year exhibit at MacDonald Park, I am thrilled that Queens, The World’s Borough is moving to the New York Mets at Citi Field. Queens loves the New York Mets!” said Larry Ng, creator of the “Queens, The World’s Borough” sculpture.

“The Mets are proud to be a fixture of the Queens community, and we are thankful to the city for alerting us to the need for a new home for this iconic sculpture,” said Kaite Haas, EVP & Chief of Ballpark Operations, New York Mets. “This collaboration allows us to preserve an important symbol of borough pride while giving our fans a fantastic new landmark to enjoy and photograph during their visits to Citi Field. It is a privilege to help keep this artwork accessible to the public in the heart of Queens.”

First envisioned by Ng in 2023, the sculpture was created to highlight Queens’ often underrecognized cultural significance. By bringing the artwork to Citi Field, this partnership reinforces a shared commitment to celebrating the borough’s identity and elevating local artists on a larger stage.

Additional details regarding the installation timeline and public unveiling at Citi Field will be announced in the coming weeks.
