Metro-North is planning to open four new train stations in the Bronx in 2027: Hunts Point, Parkchester/Van Nest, Morris Park, and Co-Op City. The stations are part of the MTA’s Penn Station Access project, which will connect the East Bronx directly to Manhattan Penn Station.

Since 2018, the City and local communities have been working together on the Bronx Metro-North Station Area Study to ensure planning around these stations meets the needs of the local communities they will serve. The Department of City Planning (DCP) and the Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) have been coordinating with other relevant City and State agencies on these efforts.

In Fall 2023, Council Members Rafael Salamanca Jr., Kevin C. Riley, Amanda Farías, and Marjorie Velázquez as well as Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson are sponsoring additional community engagement alongside agency partners to ensure Bronxites have a voice in the process and all the information they need as these planning efforts move forward. The City Council’s Planning and Land Use Division and Community Engagement Division are helping to support this community engagement process.
