“The loss of Malaysia Goodson is a tragedy. It is unacceptable that of 472 subway stations across the City, just 118 are designed for accessibility – making it nearly impossible for everyone to get where they need to go. The West 53rd Street and 7th Avenue station is one of 15 stations in my district that lacks an elevator and is not ADA accessible.

As we consider safety above ground with bike lanes and pedestrian initiatives, we must remember safety below ground. I am urging the MTA to commit to make stations accessible as they embark on new projects, including the L train reconstruction. We must take every opportunity we can to improve access for all, be it those who use wheelchairs, have strollers, or need help getting around.”
