Repealing the Cabaret Law zoning will end historically discriminatory regulations while providing relief to struggling small business owners

“Mayor Adams’ announcement today to modernize the city’s zoning code is long overdue and much welcome by New Yorkers.

Last year, the Mayor and I called on the city to repeal the antiquated restrictions on dancing inside our bars and restaurants. For decades, the legacy of the cabaret law has hurt small businesses and disproportionately impacted marginalized communities. At this pivotal moment in our city’s recovery, there is no better time to repeal this.

Alongside our recent joint legislation to suspend the city’s tax on liquor licenses, I’m pleased to join Mayor Adams in support of our cherished small businesses.

Here’s to letting New Yorkers dance freely—what a great dance, dance resolution!”
