New York City Council Member Keith Powers Statement on Ceasefire Deal in the Middle East

NEW YORK – City Council Member Keith Powers released the following statement in light of the recently affirmed ceasefire deal in the Middle East:

“I am relieved that Israel and Hamas have come to an agreement to cease fighting in Gaza. The brutal war there has taken too many lives and disrupted the peace of millions of innocent civilians. Hostages who have been held captive by Hamas are on their way home, returned to their families after suffering more than a year of imprisonment. Every single hostage must be returned safely, and the remains of those who died in captivity must be returned to receive burial.

I am grateful for the painstaking work undertaken by the Biden administration to make this ceasefire deal a reality. President Biden and his team have been committed to peace for all innocent civilians impacted by the war, and today’s announcement is an important step towards bringing this conflict to an end.”
