CM Borelli Named to NYC Council Land Use Committee & Subcommittee on Zoning and Franchises

Council Member Joe Borelli is joining the New York City Council’s Committee on Land Use, considered the Council’s most important committee, as well as the Council’s Subcommittee on Zoning and Franchises. Borelli will now have an outsized role in deciding controversial re-zonings, like last month’s Industry City drama, when New York City lost a project that promised 20,000 new jobs at a time when the City sorely needs it, and the upcoming proposal in St.

 Council Member Borelli (R-South Shore) is teaming up with non-profit organization ArtBridge, known for their work in the New York City community to empower local artists to transform prominent urban spaces into gallery quality exhibitions, to help bring some holiday spirit to the streets within the South Shore Business Improvement District (Annadale, Eltingville, Great Kills).

Council Member Joseph Borelli, along with Staten Island parents of public school students, announced that as a result of Mayor de Blasio’s decision to close public schools, filed an emergency order to show cause for a preliminary injunction seeking the re-opening of public schools. This emergency order to show cause was filed in the Southern District of New York on Friday, November 20, 2020.

This infrastructure upgrade along Amboy Road and Page Avenue, and adjoining side streets have lead to the addition of new water mains and fire hydrants, as well as the introduction of new storm sewers and catch basins designed to improve drainage and help alleviate localized flooding.

Council Member Borelli has passed his legislation (46 – to – 2) to allow restaurants the ability to institute a COVID-19 surcharge up to 10% until 90 days after the reinstatement of full indoor dining.

“We’re trying to give restaurants the option of adding a surcharge to let their customers know they need to raise a little bit more money to make their ends meet,” Borelli said.
