The Community Engagement Division consists of the following: Correspondence Services Unit, Events and Productions Unit and Community Outreach Unit. The division is principally responsible for facilitating communication and forging relationships between the Speaker’s Office, Council Members and constituents of the City of New York. The Community Engagement Division also assists with events either hosted or attended by the Speaker and the Council Members, by helping to organize, and staff the aforementioned. Additionally, the Community Engagement Division works in cooperation with Council Members and community/civic groups to develop special community and citywide projects aimed at improving constituent outreach and providing enhanced levels of service to Council Members.
We are seeking a Summer Intern to work in the Community Engagement Division. The start date for this internship is June 1, 2026.
SALARY RANGE:
Hourly rate of $32.05
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Intern duties will involve a variety of tasks and projects at all levels of community organizing.
- Assist staff in identifying community issues.
- Confer with community agencies and people in contact with the community.
- Research data, proofread documents and assist in creating and/or distributing materials for presentations.
- Perform data entry and other administrative tasks.
- Attend community meetings, parades and events on weekends, holidays and in the evenings.
- Participate in day-to-day activities with the staff.
- Performs other duties, as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- One to two years of administrative or clerical experience helpful.
- High school graduate or equivalent. Some college preferred.
- Enthusiasm and dedication to public policy and advocacy are preferred.
- Ability to work on the weekends, holidays and/or during the evening hours as needed.
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
- Strong multi-tasking capabilities and time management.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Working knowledge and ability to utilize desktop computers with software packages such as Microsoft Office and other software programs.
- Fluent in both English and a second language a plus.
