The New York City Council, an equal opportunity employer, is seeking a Director of Print Production to manage and oversee the production of Council Member and Central Staff printing requests to meet deadlines.

SALARY RANGE:

$125,000 to $155,000

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise staff by assigning work impartially, clearly and in a well-organized manner so that staff is fully aware of job responsibilities.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues with printing equipment.
  • Prepare and manage printing budgets.
  • Liaison with printing machine manufacturer and service vendors.
  • Coordinate with the Council’s Community Engagement Division on printing needs, layouts and deadlines.
  • Plan for the most efficient and cost effective operation of the Council’s Printing Center.
  • Recommend type of printing and binding to achieve the best product.
  • Determine and procure the resources necessary to satisfy Council requirements.
  • Enforce work policy and follow city and state government safety standards in the Printing Center.
  • Ensuring quality control standards are followed, training staff to operate printing and binding machines.
  • Maintain and manage printing paper stock inventory.
  • Assist with troubleshooting off-site Council Member District Office printing issues.
  • Work with Council’s Information Technology department on technical connection matters.
  • Evening and weekend services, as needed  
  • Perform other duties, as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A minimum of five years’ experience as a Bindery Equipment Operator and Printing Press Operator.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Indesign CC; Photoshop CC; QuarkXpress 10; Edging; Vision engraving
  • Proficiency with operation and maintenance of the following printing and binding machines:
    • Duplo DPB-500 Binder
    • Duplo DC 618 Slitter/Cutter/Creaser.
    • Polar N 92 PLUS is a 36″ cutter.
    • BAUM 20 PFF
    • HP Latex R1000 Plus Printer with Tables.
    • Quantity 2 – HP DesignJet Z6 Pro 64-in Printer.
    • Tamerica TCC-1200HC 45” Hot and Cold Laminator.
    • Xerox® Iridesse® Production Press Base Printing System (without RIP)
  • Experience in managing and overseeing staff.
  • Excellent communication, time management, and organizational skills, as well as the ability to multitask.
  • Experience using desktop computers with software packages such as Microsoft Office or other software programs.
  • Able to learn new material quickly and upgrade skills.
  • Able to easily digest and analyze large amounts of information quickly as well as coordinate information from multiple parties to form agendas for high level meetings.
  • Highly organized, professional and efficient.

New York City residency required within 90 days of appointment.
