The New York City Council has approved a comprehensive legislative package sponsored by Council Member Farah N. Louis designed to expand educational access and create clearer pathways to municipal employment. The legislative push centers on Intro 691-A, which addresses systemic racial inequities in science, technology, engineering, and math fields by requiring the Department of Education to gather student feedback on STEM programming and publicly report on class offerings and enrollment trends across public schools.

To support workforce development and economic justice, the Council also passed Introductions 828-A and 829-A. These measures direct the Department of Citywide Administrative Services to expand civil service recruitment by delivering career guidance materials directly to CUNY students and graduates, while launching a targeted public advertising campaign to raise awareness about upcoming civil service exams. Together, these initiatives work to dismantle historical barriers to advancement for Black and Brown students while opening direct channels to stable public sector careers.
