BROOKLYN, NY – As we commemorate International Holocaust Remembrance Day, marking  the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, we remember the six million Jews who were killed during the Holocaust.

Nearly 80 years later, anti-Semitism remains an ever-present threat for Jewish communities across our city and nation. Earlier this month, a woman harassed then spat on an 8-year-old boy outside of a Midwood synagogue. The next day, four people were held hostage on Shabbat at a synagogue in Texas. These unprovoked attacks and hate crimes perpetuate a heightened state of alert and fear resulting in a diminished quality of life.

As neighbors, and New Yorkers collectively, we must continue to denounce these violent acts, while fighting against prejudice and bigotry. Everyone deserves to live peacefully, regardless of their faith or culture.
