I love to see our students being given opportunities to learn in ways that truly connect with them—through music, the arts, and experiences that reflect their voices and creativity.

When these students came to me with a problem, I made a commitment to them that their voices would not be ignored—and within months, we made government work on their behalf.
What started as a classroom project turned into real action because their advocacy was clear, thoughtful, and impossible to overlook. I wanted this to be a defining moment for them—to see that their local elected official listened, took them seriously, and delivered—installing new trash baskets along their block
First Day of School in Newly Renovated Extension
I had the pleasure of touring PS 138’s newly renovated extension on the very first day students returned to school. Joined by Superintendent Joynt, Principal Evans, and leaders from Community School District 8, I was proud to see the incredible upgrades that will transform the educational experience for our young people. These improvements give our students a safe, modern, and inspiring place to learn and grow — right here in the Bronx.

Legionnaires’ Disease has once again taken lives in New York City. In Harlem, more than 100 people have been sickened and several have died. Sadly, this is not the first outbreak. In 2015, 12 people died at the Opera House Hotel in the Bronx. In 2022, two people died and 24 were infected in Highbridge, while five died in a Morningside Heights nursing home.

Our future is bright when our youth uses their voices and creativity to stand up for what matters. That’s exactly what Weijing Lin, a 10th grader at Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts, did in this year’s HeARTwork Against Hate contest with their piece City of Love (2025).

The Bronx has welcomed tens of thousands of people who came here in search of a better life. That hasn’t changed. What has changed is the system’s capacity and political will to support them.
Over the past two years, thousands of asylum seekers and immigrant families have come to our borough. Without access to work permits, many turned to selling food, clothes, and essential goods on the streets to survive.

Mayor Eric Adams’ Charter Revision Commission approved five ballot proposals on July 21, 2025. These proposals will appear on your ballot this November, and they deserve your attention. On the surface, they deal with land use and city governance. But underneath, they represent a major shift in how power is distributed in New York City—and who benefits from it.
Right now, Council Members like me have a seat at the table.
