In May 2024, Mayor Adams, Governor Hochul, NYCEDC, and the Port Authority announced their plans to redesign the Brooklyn Marine Terminal.
The City, through the EDC, has assumed operational control of the entire marine terminal from the Port Authority, encompassing 100+ acres of waterfront in Red Hook and the Columbia Street Waterfront District, including the existing Brooklyn Cruise Terminal.
We hope to see this re-envisioning used to modernize and expand port infrastructure, as well as advance green industrial manufacturing. These initiatives could reduce truck congestion on our streets, provide additional local union jobs, and move the city closer to our climate goals.
A project like this needs input from New Yorkers like you. The City has assembled a task force to engage community members, chaired by Rep. Dan Goldman, vice chaired by myself and State Senator Gounardes. (You can access a list of all the task force members here). So, as Vice Chair, I have been hosting events, and soliciting community questions and feedback to get an understanding of our neighbors’ perspectives.
Below, you’ll find materials from community engagement events and information to help aid your understanding of the potential redesign efforts:
- EDC MATERIALS
New York City Economic Development Corporation has assembled materials for public education regarding Brooklyn Marine Terminal redesign. You can find that information HERE.
The Timeline for EDC’s Community Engagement Process can be accessed HERE.
- VIRTUAL TOWN HALL
On November 22nd, Assemblymember Mitaynes and myself hosted a virtual town hall to hear from constituents regarding BMT. You can watch a recording of the townhall HERE.
