This week, Councilmember Sandra Ung proudly cast a “yes” vote for NYC’s FY23 budget, which totals $101 billion. Throughout the budget process, Councilmember Ung prioritized securing funding for AAPI communities and the needs of residents across Flushing, helping secure a budget that puts immigrant communities at its heart. 

“This week, I was proud to join with Speaker Adams and my colleagues to vote “AYE” on a budget that delivers historic levels of investment for our community,” said Councilmember Sandra Ung.

Councilmember Sandra Ung joined Dian Yu, executive director of the Flushing Business Improvement District, and volunteers from a local Chase Bank branch on Wednesday at a cleanup event in James Bland Playground. 

“Flushing is very dense, so we don’t have a lot of opportunities to create new open space, which is why we have to focus on taking care of the parks and playgrounds we do have,” said Council Member Ung.

Council Member Sandra Ung on Friday morning invited Department of Transportation Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez on a walking tour of downtown Flushing to discuss some of the transportation issues affecting the area. 

The intersection at Main Street and Roosevelt Avenue is the third busiest in the city behind only Times Square and Union Square, while the transit hub in Downtown Flushing is the busiest train-to-bus transfer point in the entire borough.

After being closed for over two years, Council Member Sandra Ung joined Queens Borough President Donovan Richards and Queens Public Library President & CEO Dennis Walcott on Monday morning to welcome the public back for in-person service at the Flushing Branch.

“This is a great day for the Flushing community,” said Council Member Ung. “This library is so much more than a place to check out books, it hosts community events for families, provides a safe place for teens to gather after school, and keeps our seniors connected.

Councilmember Sandra Ung on Wednesday helped artist Gerry Vewer unveil his new mural at the intersection of Kissena Boulevard and 60th Avenue. After the unveiling, the Council Member signed her name to a quote she provided for the artwork. 

“I want to thank Gerry for thinking of Flushing when he was searching for a location for his next mural,” said Council Member Ung.

Councilmember Sandra Ung hosted Department of Consumer and Worker Protection Commissioner Vilda Vera Mayuga on a visit to downtown Flushing on Tuesday to discuss the proliferation of street vendors.

The Council Member discussed the growing number of vendors, as well as other businesses using sidewalk space to sell their goods, making it difficult for pedestrians to navigate the sidewalks.

Council Member Sandra Ung hosted a free Summer Camp Fair on Tuesday, April 12, at Glow Community Center for parents wishing to explore various options for their children over the summer break.

The event was an opportunity to meet with representatives from various educational programs, as well as learn about employment opportunities for teens through the city’s Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP).
