BRONX, NY (August 13, 2026) After the devastating August 11th fire on the 183rd commercial corridor, affecting at least 5 businesses and injuring one neighbor, NYC Council Member Pierina Sanchez shared the following:

“Our neighborhood is devastated by the fire near West 183rd Street and Jerome Avenue that severely injured a worker and damaged at least five small businesses,” said Council Member Pierina Sanchez. “To every affected business owner, including those I could not reach while on the ground yesterday: Please contact my office. We will do everything possible to connect you with emergency assistance and resources to recover and reopen.”

“While the NYPD is investigating the fire as possible arson, I’m alarmed that neighbors have also raised serious allegations about connections to illegal activity. Those allegations must be fully investigated. I stand ready to work with Mayor Mamdani, Governor Hochul, law enforcement, and our agencies to ensure a thorough investigation, support the injured worker and affected businesses, and help this corridor come back stronger.”
