BRONX, NEW YORK — On Thursday, July 16, 2026, NYC Council Member Pierina Sanchez released the following statement after learning about the multiple sexual misconduct allegations against two successive commanding officers at the NYPD’s 46th Precinct:
“There must be zero tolerance for violence of any kind, especially sexual violence, within the very institution entrusted with protecting the public.
“In less than a year, serious allegations of sexual misconduct have emerged against two successive commanding officers of the NYPD’s 46th Precinct, including allegations that have now led to a criminal indictment. This represents an alarming pattern of alleged abuse of power. I call on the Mayor and Police Commissioner to cooperate fully with all criminal and civil investigations, ensure a thorough and transparent internal disciplinary process, and act swiftly to restore stability, accountability, and public trust within the 46th NYPD command.
“In the context of our challenges, our community is outraged and deeply saddened by these allegations. Even as crime declines citywide, West Bronx residents continue to endure some of the highest levels of violence in New York City. Just last night, another horrific attempted homicide occurred outside M Lounge, a location in the 46th Precinct that I have flagged to the precinct and City Hall, including during in-person walkthroughs over the past two months. My prayers are with the victim who succumbed to their injuries, their loved ones, and everyone impacted by this horrific violence. At such a critical moment, our community cannot afford a leadership vacuum or instability in this precinct.
“The hardworking people of the West Bronx deserve more from the NYPD and from our City. We will continue to demand the highest standards of integrity and accountability in policing, alongside sustained investments in the foundations of true community safety: stable housing, economic opportunity, good jobs, mental-health support, and meaningful opportunities for our young people. The West Bronx deserves—and demands—both.”
