COUNCIL MEMBER PIERINA SANCHEZ FUNDS NEW BACKBOARD INSTALLATION AT OLD CROTON AQUEDUCT WALK, ENHANCING RECREATION OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE COMMUNITY

The Bronx, NY – Old Croton Aqueduct Walk officially received a successful installation of new backboards, made possible through the collaborative efforts of Council Member Pierina Sanchez, the leadership of Friends of Aqueduct Walk, and the initiative of Tony Moore, with Aqueduct Elite Basketball.

Council Member Pierina Sanchez worked closely with the Department of Parks and Recreation and Bronx Parks and Recreation Commissioner Jessenia Aponte to secure the replacement of backboards at Old Croton Aqueduct Walk. This project was made possible through the utilization of $10,000 from Council Member Sanchez’s funding under the New York City Council Park Equity Initiative.

The new backboards at Old Croton Aqueduct Walk represent Council Member Sanchez’s commitment to optimizing every inch of park space within the district. By responding to constituent requests and enhancing the quality of life in the area, Council Member Sanchez aims to ensure that residents have access to well-maintained recreational facilities.

In addition to her continued support of the Old Croton Aqueduct Walk facilities, Councilmember Pierina Sanchez made a statement today during the NYC Council’s landmark hearing for Aqueduct Walk in strong support of the historic landmark designation. Her statement during this hearing demonstrates the Councilmember’s dedication to the preservation of the history and culture of the 14th city council district.

“The installation of new backboards at Aqueduct Walk improves the recreational opportunities for our community. I am proud to have been able to allocate funding for this project under the Council’s Park Equity Initiative, and I remain committed to working closely with community members and local organizations to enhance our district’s parks and public spaces,” said Council Member Pierina Sanchez.
