Late NYPD Detective Steven McDonald’s legacy lives on in the precinct he patrolled before he was shot in 1986

Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito, Council Member Helen Rosenthal along with McDonald’s family attended a ceremony co-naming the 86th Street transverse as “Detective Steven McDonald Way.”

A 15-year-old boy shot McDonald on July 12, 1986, while the officer was responding to a bicycle theft in the park, leaving the cop paralyzed for the remainder of his life. We remember him as a hero who exemplified the best of our City.
