CITY HALL — Today, members of New York City’s Council’s LGBTQIA+ caucus elected Council Member Justin Sanchez to serve as Co-Chair.

“I’m grateful to my colleagues for their trust in me, and I look forward to building an even stronger partnership between each member, where we can lead through unity and purpose while advancing LGBTQIA+ equality and visibility,” said Co-Chair Justin Sanchez.

Council Member Justin Sanchez represents the 17th Council District of New York City Council, which covers a portion of the South Bronx. Sanchez is a freshman Council Member who served as the Chair of the LGBTQ+ Caucus of the Young Democrats of America and President of the Stonewall Democratic Club of New York City.

“Our caucus is at a historic juncture. Our community is on the front lines of hate and division handed down to us from the Trump administration,” said Sanchez, “As a result, our caucus cannot waiver to any threats and the quality of our work must be more effective and impactful than it has ever been.”

Chi Ossé, a second term Council Member who represents District 36 in Brooklyn, was also elected Co-Chair. Sanchez and Ossé succeed former Co-Chairs Tiffany Caban and Crystal Hudson who both remain on the caucus and represent Districts 22 and 35 respectively.

The LGBTQIA+ Caucus of the New York City Council is a coalition of Council Members who work collaboratively to advance legislation, secure resources, and advocate for policies that protect, affirm, and uplift LGBTQIA+ New Yorkers. The caucus serves as a unified voice in City Hall, centering equity, inclusion, and safety while ensuring that LGBTQIA+ communities are represented in the City’s legislative and budgetary priorities.

The delegation includes both Co-Chairs and both former Co-Chairs as well as Council Members David Carr (District 50) and Lynn Schulman (District 29).
