An accused cop shooter who claimed a Venezuelan gang is smuggling guns into migrant facilities stayed at a shelter with a X-ray and magnetometer to scan for weapons, officials said.
Security guards at the East Elmhurst shelter have been “retrained” on the proper use of handheld wands and scanning belongings since former resident Bernardo Raul Castro Mata, 19, allegedly shot two NYPD officers, city officials told The Post.

New York City voters in November could have the power to repeal “misguided and dangerous” “sanctuary city” laws that severely limit the NYPD’s ability to cooperate with the feds on immigration matters and are a clear “threat to public safety.”
Joe Borelli (R-Staten Island), Robert Holden (D-Queens) and six other members of the City Council’s “Common Sense Caucus” fired off a letter this week to a newly-appointed Charter Revision Commission, asking it to put a referendum question on the ballot to determine whether to roll back the “sanctuary” laws that help criminals avoid deportation.

The Democrat-controlled New York City Council has been blasted as “out of touch” by local Republicans for swatting down Mayor Eric Adams’ call to change the Big Apple’s sanctuary policy in order to more easily deport migrants accused of crimes.
Council Speaker Adrienne Adams on Wednesday called Hizzoner’s suggestion “harmful” and said lawmakers were not planning on making any modifications to the law.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Mayor Eric Adams stood by Monday as a local non-profit leader said during a press briefing that two Staten Island churches would soon house migrants, but on Tuesday, Republican elected officials disputed those comments.
Assemblyman Michael Reilly (R-South Shore) tweeted a statement calling the Advance/SILive.com’s report on those statements inaccurate, citing unnamed city officials.
