Council Member Joseph C. Borelli (R-South Shore) and Borough President James Oddo are announcing two brand new improvements coming to Wolfe’s Pond Park in Huguenot; a playground and basketball courts. Much of the recreational infrastructure at the park, one of the most popular on the south shore, had been damaged by the storm surge during and after Superstorm Sandy in 2012.

Borough President Oddo and Council Member Borelli’s offices have allocated a total of $710,000 for the basketball courts, while the playground was funded through a Federal Emergency Management Administration grant to repair Sandy-related damage. Work on the playground has already begun and is expected to be completed in the spring of 2018, while the basketball courts will be fully funded in the city’s current fiscal year and are scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2020.

“Wolfe’s Pond Park is the jewel of the south shore parks,” said Borelli. “It’s where I spent many days during my childhood and where I now spend many weekends with my son. I know how important the active recreation at these parks is to this community and how cherished this park is, and I’m thankful that Borough President Oddo feels as strongly as I do about making sure this is a public space which Staten Islanders can be proud of.”

Borough President Oddo said, “This investment of taxpayer funds will make a great park even better by providing Staten Island kids with even more recreational opportunities.”
