For P.S. 19’s Appreciation Day, little Larry Mendoza created an uncanny miniature model of his Council Member, Francisco Moya

CORONA, NY — On Wednesday morning, Council Member Francisco Moya visited the 2E1 class at P.S. 19Q Marino Jeantet and awarded 7-year-old Larry Mendoza a citation for his “Appreciation Day” school project: A report on Council Member Moya accompanied by an uncanny model of the local elected official that stands about one foot tall.

No detail was ignored in little Larry’s mini Moya model. It bears the Council Member’s characteristic beard, his double-breasted suit jacket and even an elected’s pin fashioned to his left lapel.

“These second graders have floored me. I’m so humbled by their Appreciation Day projects, and especially my guy, 7-year-old Larry Mendoza, for his mini Moya model!” Council Member Moya said.

“In all my time in public office, from the state Assembly to representing my community in the City Council, this is without question my most cherished award. This was particularly special for me not just because I live a few blocks away from this school but because I also went to P.S. 19 as a child. I hope Larry and all his classmates know that anything is possible for a kid growing up in Corona. I hope to one day see some of them representing our community in the Council, Assembly, Mayor’s Office, Senate — there are no limits for these bright and talented young minds.”
