A Welcome Message . . .

Dear Neighbors & Friends,

Thank you for visiting the website of Brooklyn’s 41st City Council District. It is my greatest honor to represent the people of Bedford Stuyvesant, Ocean Hill-Brownsville, East Flatbush and Crown Heights in the City Council.

My responsibilities are to be your dedicated advocate in city government and to fight daily to bring information and resources to our communities. I hope you will use this site as a resource for important information on our city budget and services, policies and legislative issues that affect you.

I am committed to remaining an accountable and accessible grassroots leader. That means I need to hear your comments and suggestions!

E-mail my office using the Contact link on this website or call or stop by the district office for assistance. The monthly advisory board meetings, described on the Upcoming Events page, are a chance for us to communicate about important issues face-to-face. By staying in touch and working together, we will make a positive difference in our neighborhoods and our city!

Very truly yours,

Darlene Mealy

City Council Passes Critical Legislation to Limit Contract Overruns Out of Contracts Committee Chaired by Council Member Darlene Mealy

On the day the city learned that it will be recover $500M of the money paid on the fraudulent City Time contract, the City Council has passed legislation that will help prevent such scandals in the future.

Intro 707-A requires the mayor to provide City Council with quarterly reports detailing significant increases in the initially contracted cost of large contracts for capital projects. Speaker Quinn pledged today that these reports will be made available to the public via the Council’s website.

This legislation was first passed out of the Contracts Committee, chaired by Council Member Darlene Mealy. “Under my leadership, the Contracts Committee has passed multiple pieces of legislation intended to shine more light on the city’s contracting practices,” said Council Member Mealy. “Intro 707-A will give members of the Council and the public the information we need to ensure that the costs of future contracts will not grow unmonitored and unchecked. I’m proud to be a sponsor of this bill and to lead the Contracts Committee that has produced it.”
